Using data supplied on energy bills from January to December 2023, the total annual energy use of the home was 3,589 kWh. According to data from Paul Ryan and Alan Pears in Renew Magazine a typical Canberra home uses 18,000 kWh (64,800 MJ). This home is using more than 81% less energy than the average Canberra home. When we accounted for their 4.5 kW solar system, the house was giving back 3,730 kWh across the year. Oska’s house is therefore a net source of energy for the grid, rather than a drain.
